We went to SM Manila last Friday to meet Lairah. It was her 20th birthday and I decided to bring her something. It was the only time of the year where I get a chance to make her happy. Although we were not able to enjoy any other occasion together, even my own birthday, I make sure that I will always be there during hers. It became my habit to meet her somewhere every year, eat and just take time to talk about how our lives had been. Last Friday like last year, I was able to meet her. She thanked me for the present I brought her and I told her it was nothing. But unlike last year, she was so eager to go. I know it was a litte late and they still have to go to her boyfriend's place, I was hoping she could stay even just for a while.. which she actually did - she gave instructions for me to do their group assignment - then, that was it. Lairah and I had known each other since grade three. We have the same set of friends in elementary and we have been close friends since first year high school. We laugh together, we cry together, we get our hair done together, we shop together... but now, things are just different. So different that aside from the once-a-week inconsistent 'kumustahan' we have, and both of us replying 'ayos lang' at the end of each conversation, I realize I don't know Lairah anymore. I don't know her favorite food, her favorite color, her favorite song... I don't know if I am still the BEST friend for her.After parting ways that day, all I had was bitterness. I kept blaming her for not being able to stay with me for a while and do our chats about everything and anything. Ngayon, less drama queen na. I just hope things would go back to what they're used to.
But yeah, I forgot that things change. And I know, both Lairah and I can't do anything about that.
